James C. "Red" Hunt, 79, of Cabello Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Lakeview Christian Home after complications from an automobile accident in February 2014.
There will be no visitation, cremation will take place and private family services will be held at a later date.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
James "Red" Hunt was born in Barstow, Texas on March 5, 1935 to James Raymond and Laney Aline (Drake) Hunt. He enlisted in the Navy after high school and often mentioned that he made several trips over the equator. He moved to Carlsbad in 1966 and worked at most of the potash mines in various positions. He retired from AMAX in 1984 as a mine supervisor. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, dancing and talking. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and considered himself an amateur country song writer. He was a member of the B.P.O.Elks, Lodge # 1558 and the North Mesa Senior Center.
Survivors are his son, Lee Hunt of Hobbs, NM; sister, Anna Brinker and husband, Bob of Carlsbad, NM; nephews: J. K. Russell of Carlsbad, NM, Roy Dyer of Arlington, TX and several great-nephews and nieces.
