James "Jimmy" Richard McLellan

James “Jimmy” Richard McLellan, 52, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at home. James was born on November 3, 1971, in Los Angeles, CA to John and Loretta McLellan. 

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Chaplain James Jones officiating.

James grew up in California, and became an avid fan of the Oakland Raiders, and remained a Raiders fan throughout their moves. He loved listening to all kinds of music, and could play several instruments. He always had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed making other people laugh. He met Melissa in 2007, and then they finally got married on December 31, 2017. James gained a new family full of children and grandchildren. He loved to spoil his wife, making sure she felt loved and special. He also loved his dog Grizzley. James will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

James was preceded in death by his father, John William McLellan; and mother, Loretta Ruth (Varela) McLellan.

James is survived by his wife, Melissa Martinez of Carlsbad, NM; five children: Maricela Mendoza of California; Lorena Salinas and husband, Jesus of Artesia, NM; Araceli Mendoza of California; Joseph Follette of Carlsbad, NM; and Ezekiel Mendoza-Gransden of California; four grandchildren; three siblings: John McLellan and wife, Nancy of Texas; Joyce McLellan and Brian Grimes of California; and Jeannie McLellan of California; nephews: Evan, Ricky and Willian, and numerous extended family members.
