James (J.C.) Young passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at his home after a hard fought battle with cancer. Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Joe Gomez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. J.C. was born to John and Stella (Pomroy) Young in Bogota, TX at his parent's home on November 1, 1931. He moved with his family to Bisbee, AZ in 1941 where he stayed until 1943. After 1943 he moved to Wichita Falls, TX, where he attended Valley View High School, he then graduated in 1950. J.C. came to Carlsbad, NM, for a short visit and decided to stay and took a job at Forrest Tire. He joined the Air Force in December of 1950, where he trained and worked as an Aircraft Radar Technician until he was honorably discharged in December 1954. Upon J.C.'s return to Carlsbad he began working at IMC. He left IMC in 1962 and began to work for Southwest Potash Company (AMAX). AMAX soon recognized J.C.'s outstanding work ethic. This coupled with his vast knowledge of mining operations resulted in his rapid promotion to Shift Superintendent. J.C. held this position until his retirement in 1987. J.C. loved a wide variety of sports. While working for AMAX, J.C., was an avid bowler winning championships on both State and Local levels. His retirement years were spent enjoying his wife and family, gardening, and playing golf on a daily basis. J.C. was very proud for being notorious as the first golfer on the course every morning. J.C. married his devoted and loving wife, La Nora Greer on January 28, 1952. He said he knew he loved her the first time he met her. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Together they raised a family of three: David, Diane and Shannon. As he grew older and wiser he realized the importance of having a relationship with God. He studied the Bible for several years with Jehovah's Witnesses, making his dedication to Jehovah God through his son, Jesus Christ. This brought him much joy and peace. J.C. will be missed by all who knew and loved him. James Young is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dean Young; son, David Young, and Grandson Derek McCoy. Survivors include his wife, La Nora Young; daughters: Diane Nesbit and husband, Jerry, Shannon McCoy, all living in Carlsbad, NM; sister, Patsy Alexander and husband, James, Clarkdale AZ; brother, Tommy Young and wife, Jenni of Albuquerque NM; five grandchildren: Chris Young and wife, Jennifer of Fernley, NV, Dustyn Young and Jeanette of Hobbs, NM, Jami McCoy and Charlie of Justin, TX, Stephanie Young and husband, Josh of Albuquerque NM; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. All of the surviving family members were dearly loved by J.C. Pallbearers will be Jim Alexander, Tommy Young, Gene Taylor, Jerry Nesbit, Chris Young, Dustyn Young, Stephanie Young and Jami McCoy.
