Jerry (James Jeremiah) Evans, 91, of Loving, passed away Friday, November 6, 2009. Services are being handled by Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 2 pm at Carlsbad Cemetery with Rev. Bobby W. Fuller officiating.
Jerry was born to Sam Evans and Naomi Elliot Evans on September 10, 1918 and was raised in the Baptist faith. In 1956 he married Agnes Lenora Blummer who was the mother of two children which he adopted and raised as his own.
Jerry served in the United States Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1941 and he attended aviation school. During World War II he was stationed at Midway Island, southeast of Japan. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Elks.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sam; his mother, Naomi; a sister, Inez Evans; his wife, Agnes and his daughter, Dolly Lee Evans. He is survived by his wife Alma Rosa Evans; a son, Leroy Evans; his grandson, Aaron Evans and many friends and extended family. Jerry is remembered by those who knew him as "tough" and "generous". He will be greatly missed.
