James A. Russell, 94, of West Pierce Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away March 17, 2010 at Lakeview Christian Home.
Cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, April 16, 2010, 1:00 PM, at Lakeview Christian Home with Chaplain Terry McKean officiating.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
James A. Russell was born November 30, 1915 in Park City, Montana to Jacob A. and Lela A. (Cram) Russell. He grew up in Montana and was a high school graduate. James lived in Los Angeles, CA and worked for Tech. Motion Picture Corporation as a film technician. He served in the US Marines from 1942 to 1945. James moved to Carlsbad in April 1946. While in Carlsbad he was married to Cathryn Gorey and he worked as a tile setter, moved into sales. They moved to New Orleans, LA. where James met and married Edyth Koonce. He worked for Tropical Paint Company as the Southeast US Manager. In 1968 James started working in Mausoleum sales. He retired in 1980 and opened a vacuum store for three years. James retired in 1983 and moved back to Carlsbad. His hobbies were fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Cathryn H. Russell in 1965; one step-daughter, one step-son, four half-sisters, one half-brother.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Edythe Russell of Carlsbad, NM; three step-sons: Paul F. McAtee and wife, Marilyn of Glendale, CA; Chester J. Caskey, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Spokane, WA, Joseph V. Caskey and wife, Donna of Ontario, CA; nine step-grandchildren and niece Evelyn Peters of Farmington, NM.
