Irvin Lee "Pat" Gossett, 97, of W. Pierce St., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at Lakeview Christian Home.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 1, 2013, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain John Mezger of Lakeview Christian Home, officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Irvin Lee "Pat" Gossett was born on December 29, 1915, in El Paso, Texas to Ole and Dovie (Howell) Gossett. He moved to Carlsbad as an infant with his parents. Pat graduated from Carlsbad High School and worked on a ranch for many years. He was drafted into the US Army Air Corp where he served during WWII from 1941-1945. When he returned, Pat started working in the grocery business. He married Anna Belle Covey on September 3, 1946 here in Carlsbad. Pat bought Brown's Food Market in 1950 which he operated for 29 years until retiring in 1979. Pat was a long time member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and playing cards. Pat was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna Belle Gossett; son, Allen Gossett and sister, Retha Jones.
Survivors are his daughter: Barbara Anderson of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren: Benjamin Turk and wife, Brooke of Bruni, Texas and Shannon Turk of Santa Fe, NM; great-grandchildren: Kourtney and Zackary Turk; nieces: Vallee Galloway, June Howard and Shirley Swayze; special friend, Millie Samuels of Carlsbad, NM.
Pallbearers will be Lanny Barnett, Calvin Strickland, Don Roberts, Phil Lairson, Rick McKean and Stan Samuels.
