Irma Faye Hernandez, 72, of Gambel Quail Court, Carlsbad, NM, passed away December 25, 2013 at her home.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 29, 2013, 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, December 30, 2013, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Irma Faye Hernandez was born October 5, 1941 in Shafter, Texas to Petronilo and Corina D. (Deanda) Gonzalez. She married Zeke E. Hernandez on October 9, 1960 at St. Edward Catholic Church. Irma co-owned several local businesses with her husband, Zeke, including E-Z Bail Bond, where she worked many years, and Z.H. Services. She later was an executive secretary at WIPP for several years. Irma was a member of the American G. I. Forum where she served as local chairwoman and state chairwoman. She was also a member of the International Good Neighbor Council and a member and past vice president and president of Altrusa Club. Irma always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She volunteered with Carlsbad Literacy Program and Business and Professional Women of Carlsbad. Church was always a big part of Irma's life and she devoted a big part of her life to church. She loved planning family events, dancing and traveling with her husband, Zeke. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors are her husband, Zeke E. Hernandez of Carlsbad, NM; children: Robin Rendino and husband, Joseph, Zeke Michael Hernandez, Melanie Longoria and husband, Joel, all of Carlsbad; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters: Ida Pearson of Carlsbad, NM, Imelda Gonzalez of Albuquerque, NM; like a sister: Delma DeLora of Santa Fe, NM; brothers: Petronilo "Nilo" Gonzalez, III of Carlsbad, NM and Ismael "Sonny" Gonzalez of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Edward Granger, Britnie Soto, Brianne Soto, Anthony "A.J." Soto, Edward "E.J." Granger and Alazay Granger. Honorary pallbearers are Freddie Granger and Megan Mykhael Hernandez.
