Irene Beach Smith

Irene Beach Smith, 96, of East Rose Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Lakeview Christian Home, just four days after celebrating her 96th brithday. Irene spent 96 days with us after her beloved Dubert passed away and now she and Dubert are together again. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, July 17, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2015, 10:00 AM, at Fox and Lake Church of Christ with Philip Lairson officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ola Irene (Beach) Smith was born on July 10, 1919 at 113 North Mesa Street in Carlsbad, NM to Daniel Boone and Ola Beatrice (Grammar) Beach. After graduating Carlsbad High School in 1937, Irene worked at Praetorian Insurance until she married Dubert Smith on March 16, 1941. After Dubert entered the army in 1944 Irene held down the fort at home with 2 small children. She was a long time member of Fox and Lake Church of Christ, teaching Sunday school and working with the babies in the nursery. Irene's life revolved around the home. Birthdays were a time for cake and home-made ice cream and Christmas eve was always chaos when all the kids and grandkids tore open presents all at the same time. As long as she was able, Irene prepared lunch for the men daily when they came home from work at noon. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Dale Beach and her husband of 74 years, Dubert Smith. Irene is survived by five children: Dwayne Smith and wife, Melody, Duberta Croley, James Smith and wife, Lorna, Dwight Smith, Tom Smith and wife, Terri; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jim Brisbin .
