Ira Hughlett, 96, of W. Pierce Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Lakeview Christian Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, 2017, 11:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Associate Pastor Kevin Pence officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ira Hughlett was born December 1, 1920 in Crosbyton, Texas to Ira Oral and Una Mae (Russell) Hughlett. He married Dorothy Lee Phillips September 27, 1941 in Tokio, Texas. Ira served his country in the US Army during World War II. He and Dorothy moved to Carlsbad in 1948 where Ira went to work in the potash mines. He worked for PCA over 32 years before retiring in 1980. Ira was baptized at First Baptist Church many years ago and has continued to be a faithful member. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. Ira never turned down the opportunity to spend time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Peek; son, Ira Joe Hughlett; brother, Floyd Hughlett and sister, Hazel Ferguson. Survivors are his wife of 75 years, Dorothy Hughlett; son, Ronald Hughlett and wife, Candi of Crandill, Texas; son-in-law, Richard Peek of Carlsbad, NM; daughter-in-law, Tracy Hughlett of Moore, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and sister, Lois Ford and husband, Bob. Pallbearers will be Vance Peek, Kevin Burns, Cheyney D. Peek, Richard D. Peek, Michael Martinez, Joubani Francisco and Billy Stewart. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
