Ima Jo Craig, 84, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Carlsbad Medical Center. Ima Jo was born on June 18, 1938, in Glenwood, AR to Marley and Pauline Cooper.
Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM Friday, November 4, 2022, at Sunset Church of Christ, followed by interment at the Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM.
Ima Jo met the love of her life, Dick Craig, while going to Abilene Christian College, and they got married on September 4, 1960, and were blessed with 62 wonderful years together. They started their family while living in Oregon having three boys, where the boys remember many years of picking and canning vegetables with their mom and grandma. They then moved to Carlsbad, NM in 1976, to work with the Fox and Lake Church of Christ. After several years, they moved over to Sunset Church of Christ where they have been long time members ever since.
Ima Jo spent many years teaching both at the Carlsbad Mid High and the Carlsbad High School, where she was able to make a difference in countless children’s lives. She also spent many years working summers at their church camp, Skyridge in the mountains near Cloudcroft, NM. That was one of their happy places, where the trees were tall and air was fresh. Ima Jo also enjoyed needle point and cross stitching, and playing 42 at the senior center. And most of all, she loved her family. To her loving husband, she will always be his angel.
Ima Jo was preceded in death by her father, Marley Cooper; and mother, Pauline (Sevier) Cooper.
Ima Jo is survived by her loving husband, Dick Craig of Carlsbad, NM; three sons: Scott Craig and wife, Lori of San Marcos, TX; Steve Craig of Childress, TX; and Stan Craig and wife, Janda of Lansing, MI; nine grandchildren: Jacob Hickey, Robbie Craig, Kaley Hickey, Allison Ross (Collin), Kaitlyn Pruet (Benton), Nicholas Craig, Luke Craig, Mark Craig, and Matthew Craig; and numerous extended family members.
