Howard Earl Jones, a man of resilience and unwavering kindness, passed away on November 19, 2023, at the University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. He was born on July 22, 1943, in Paris, Texas, the son of Hubert Carl Jones and Myrtle Hazel Bradley.
Howard was a loving husband to Carol Jean (Cummins) Jones until her peaceful passing on January 9, 2016. His devoted children survive him: Kirk Jones of Littleton, Colorado, married to Joe Benson, and Janeyre (Jones) Ramirez of Greeley, Colorado, married to Edward Ramirez. His legacy extends through his four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished. Howard spent the final years of his life with his friend and companion, Susana Squires, in Carlsbad.
Howard was a cornerstone of his family. He shared a bond with his late sister, Joyce Wilkins, and found joy in the company of his older brother, Carl Jones, and his wife, Sandra, who reside on their farm in Paris, Texas. His wide circle of cousins, nieces, and nephews were touched by his warmth and generosity. Howard's friendship extended far and wide, enriching the lives of many throughout his journey.
Raised in Paris, Texas, and then in Carlsbad, NM, Howard embraced a life deeply intertwined with the land. From his early days as a ranch hand and his daring exploits as a rodeo cowboy to his years spent on a seismology crew, Howard's spirit was tethered to the rugged landscapes he knew so well. His dedication to hard work and perseverance was evident in every role he undertook.
In his later years, Howard ventured into mineral mining and then channeled his work ethic into owning his own businesses. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as a testament to his determination and adaptability, leaving an indelible mark on those he encountered.
Howard Earl Jones leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and a steadfast dedication to family and community. His spirit will continue to echo through the lives he touched, leaving an enduring imprint on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 27 from 3 to 5 pm in the Powerhouse Room of the Carlsbad Riverwalk Recreation Complex (400 Riverwalk Drive). In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in honor of Howard’s life.
