Herman "Bubba" Lopez

Herman “Bubba” Lopez, 67, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023, in Lubbock, TX. Herman was born on December 29, 1955, in Loving, NM to Jim and Maggie Lopez.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A rosary is scheduled for 9:30 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM with Fr. Hruday Kumar Pasala officiating. Burial will take place at the Loving Cemetery in Loving, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Herman grew up on the family farm in Malaga, NM and graduated from the Carlsbad High School in 1974. Herman spent thirty plus years working as a gas compressor mechanic, and retired from Desert Compressions where he made some of the best friends he could ever ask for. After retiring, he did some farming and raised cattle with a friend. He was an energetic person who never met a stranger. He made friends with everyone and called them Bubba. Herman loved spending time with friends and family, and always enjoyed having an ice-cold beer. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Herman was preceded in death by his father, Jim Lopez; mother, Maggie (Acosta) Lopez; three siblings: Jim Lopez, Sonny Lopez, and Thelma Calderon; and close friend, Keith Counts.

Herman is survived by his three children: Jimmy Joe Lopez and wife, Yvette of Loving, NM; John Paul Lopez and wife, Valerie of Loving, NM; and Kara Lopez of Tatum, NM; four grandchildren: Makayla Lopez, Daxxon Lopez, Mia Lopez, and Alex Rodriguez; four siblings: Sally Vasquez and husband, Tony of Malaga, NM; Lucy Gonzalez and husband, Leo of Carlsbad, NM; Henry Lopez and wife, Selina of Carlsbad, NM; and David Lopez of Malaga, NM; two siblings-in-law: Ben Calderon and Bea Lopez; aunt, Irene Campos of Irving, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Randy Counts, Cooper Counts, Lacy Miller, John Munoz, Alex Rodriguez, Daniel Florez, Daniel Lopez and Tyler Wilson.
