Helen E. Armstrong, 87, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Landsun Homes.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, October 12, 2010, 10:00 AM, at Carlsbad Cemetery with Chaplain Ed Kneeland officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen E. Armstrong was born October 5, 1923 to Paul and Leah (Dotts) Coats in Bluejacket, OK. She graduated from Bluejacket High School in 1941. After graduating, Helen went to work for Boeing as "Rosie the Riveter" in Wichita, KS. She married Leo B. Armstrong on March 14, 1943 in Wichita. They moved to Carlsbad in 1946. After her children were older, Helen went to work at Corner Drug Store, where she worked for many years. After retiring she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen was a long time member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo B. Armstrong, daughter Sue West, 5 brothers, and one sister.
Survivors include two daughters: Jan Gibson and husband, Barclay of Carlsbad, NM and Peggy Armstrong of El Paso, TX; one son: David Armstrong and wife, Denise of Carlsbad, NM; five grandchildren: Marty Banks, Amy Calvani, Chris Armstrong, Holly Gibson and Julie Duncan; 11 great-grandchildren: Ashley Banks, Matt Banks, Randy Armstrong, Allie Armstrong, Alexis Duncan, Leah Duncan, Frankie Duncan, Jacob Duncan, Joshua Duncan, Cory Calvani and Kevin Calvanni; two sisters Nancy Hill of Nowata, OK and Carol Bergreen of Tucson, AZ.
