Helen C. Harvey

A Memorial graveside service for Helen Clarke Harvey, the matriarch of the H.C. Harvey family, will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, November 9, 2012 at Carlsbad Cemetery (old section) in Carlsbad, NM, with Kevin Pence officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements. Mrs. Harvey passed peacefully on October 9, 2012 in Branford, Connecticut after giving of herself to family and friends for over 100 years. Helen was born in Wakita, Oklahoma on February 25, 1912. She married H.C. (Herron) Harvey in 1936 and moved to Carlsbad in 1937. Helen and Herron lived in Carlsbad where they both served the community and were loyal members of the First Baptist Church and where H.C. served as Mayor. Helen and Herron moved to Lubbock, TX in 1985. In Lubbock, Helen and Herron became active members of Highland Baptist Church. Herron and Helen enjoyed 69 years of marriage before Herron preceded her in death in June of 2005. In 2006, Helen moved to Eagle, Colorado with her daughter, Nancy Long, and lived there for two years before moving to Madison, Connecticut to be near her daughter, Rebecca Harvey, and son, John Harvey. Helen is survived by her sons, Clarke Harvey and wife Donna of El Paso, and John Harvey and wife, Carolyn, of New York, N.Y; daughters, Nancy Long and husband Michael of Denver, and Rebecca Harvey of Branford, Connecticut. She is also survived by three sisters, Virginia Brown, of Idaho Falls, ID, Carolyn Evans of Ponca City, OK and Jo Clarke of Reno, NV. In addition, Helen leaves nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Helen C.
