Helen Ashford

Helen Ashford, 91, former Amarillo resident, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad, NM. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside Services are scheduled for Monday, September 12, 2011, 3:00 PM, at Llano Cemetery-East with Pastor Rodger Johnson officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Helen Ashford was born June 2, 1920 in Lamar County, Texas to Curtis and Gladys (Young) O'Neal. She married Eulis J. Ashford on December 21, 1935 in Cunningham, Texas and they later moved to Amarillo. Helen was blessed to be a caregiver for numerous people throughout the years. She was a long time member of the Northside United Pentecostal Church in Amarillo where she lead singing and played the piano. In 2006, Helen moved to Carlsbad where she was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eulis J. Ashford in 2001; great-granddaughter, Alycia Ashford; brother, Lawrence O'Neal; sisters: Betty Clark, Jo Archibald, Nina O'Neal and Alma Belle Cook; daughters-in-law: Sandy Ashford and Peggy Ashford. Survivors are her three sons: Gerald Ashford of Carlsbad, NM, Ray Ashford and wife, Rose of Carlsbad, NM, Weldon Ashford of Amarillo, TX; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul O'Neal and wife, Juanita of Melborne, AR; two sisters:Ruth Tucker of Garland, TX and June Williams of Hugo, OK. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Ashford, Ray Ashford, Weldon Ashford, Greg Ashford, Gary Ashford, Garrod Ashford, James Ashford, Isaiah Ashford, Gerald L.
