Hazel Brantley, 88, of Laguna Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at her home. A vigil will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2016 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Cordero officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Hazel Brantley was born July 5, 1928 in Roswell, NM to Evie and Vidala (Duran) Morelos. She married E.J. Brantley May 6, 1958 here in Carlsbad. Hazel worked at several grocery stores and retired from Safeway after 28 years. She volunteered many hours with numerous organizations including the hospital auxiliary and hospital chaplain. Hazel served as Eucharistic minister, altar server, and sacristan and was an adorer of the Blessed Sacrament at San Jose Catholic Church. She also helped with the family fair, jail ministry, Caring Hands and was a member of the Franciscan Order and Catholic Daughters of the Americas-Court San Jose. Hazel attended mass everyday until she became ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. Brantley; brother, Leslie Robert Morelos; son, Sam Brantley and granddaughter, Renea Crouch. Survivors are her children: Hank Brantley and partner, JoAnne Luciani, Tunie Hooten and husband, Kenny, Quata Brantley, Marty Brantley and wife, Terri, EJ Brantley and wife, Heather; grandchildren: Jeremy Brantley, Patrick Brantley, Shawn Sartori, Misty Crouch, Derrick Jameson, Nicholas Hooten, Dayne Hooten, Heath Putman, Casey Nunley, Ryan Brantley, Andrew Brantley, Brandi Davidson, Cody Brantley, Amanda Bratcher, Tyler Brantley; 22 great-grandchildren and one brother, Joe Rodriquez. Pallbearers will be Casey Nunley, Derrick Jameson, Dayne Hooten, Nicholas Hooten, Rusty Foster and Tracer Foster. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
