Hazel B. Chastain

Hazel B. Chastain, 96, of Smedley Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at her home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday, February 29, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 1, 2016, 11:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David W. Rogers officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Hazel B. Chastain was born May 9, 1919 in Centralia, Washington to Joseph William and Anna Agnes (Garrison) Boothby. She graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle, WA in 1937. Hazel liked to dance, golf and bowl. She enjoyed winters in Quatzsite, Arizona. Hazel also enjoyed TV and books on tape and she still loved to travel. In 2006, she moved from Ryderwood, Washington to live in Carlsbad with her son Rick and his wife Sherry. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Warren Chastain; brothers: Orville, Joseph and Richard Boothby; sisters: Agnes Rose Boothby and Frances Portscheller. She is survived by sons Thomas and his wife Agnes (Avon, CO), Richard and his wife Sherry (Carlsbad, NM), daughter Judy and her significant other John Morrare (Cape Coral, FL), three grandchildren Steve, Andrea and Travis, four great grandchildren, Hanna, Chandler, Kyle, and Andrew plus numerous nieces and nephews.
