Harvey D. Sims, 91, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away at home on March 26, 2023, with his loving wife, Sandra, by his side.
Harvey was born January 2, 1932, to Lloyd & Ruby Sims in Brownfield, TX.
As a child and as an adult, Harvey knew how to work hard. Throughout his life he had many occupations, such as cowboy, trucker, construction worker, welder, and oil field worker. He did not let the grass grow under his feet! He did everything he could to support his family, and he would do everything he could to help a friend in need.
Harvey and Sandra started their 50-year love story on December 23, 1972. Sandra said he “plopped his saddle down” at her house and they were each other’s everything from that day forward.
Harvey was a good husband and father, and he was a good friend to many. He enjoyed life. He was a character, a prankster, and a quick wit. He loved playing cards and games and enjoyed family gatherings. He especially enjoyed his time with brothers-in-law, Ralph, Jay and Larry. Harvey liked fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and 3-wheeling.
Harvey was a man who loved dogs, horses, and kids. His style and values were Western. This is the stuff he was made of. And he was loved.
Harvey is preceded in death by his sister, Doris Roberts, brother, Kenneth Sims, son, Troy Sims, and daughter, Stephanie Kay. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Sims; two sisters, Peggy Alberts & Carolyn Tidmore; daughters Linda Pinto, Marilyn Santillanes, Lynn Rushé, Shirley Jensen, Kelly Beaty, and Tracy Burgeson; son, John Kay; and grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Harvey’s life will be arranged later this summer.
