Harry "Tony" Readel was born August 25, 1940 in Silver City, NM to Caryl J. and Ethel T. (Wingler) Readel and moved to Carlsbad as a young boy. Harry graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1961 where he was a manager for Cavemen Baseball. Harry served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in England. He graduated from NMSU in 1973 with a dual degree in journalism and English where he was a member of Sigma Delta Chi which was the Professional Journalist Society. Harry worked as a sports editor with the Artesia Daily Press for several years before moving to El Paso and working with the El Paso Herald Post. He married Roxanne Belshaw November 1986. He also worked with the Roswell Daily News, Quay County Sun and retired from the Artesia Daily Press as editor in 2008. Harry was presented with numerous journalism awards during his career and had the opportunity to meet many sports players and coaches. He married Patricia Landreth June 25, 2011 here in Carlsbad. Harry was an avid baseball fan and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Roxanne Readel and brother, Dale Readel.
Survivors are his wife, Pat Landreth Readel of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Tommy Landreth and wife, Tina of Carlsbad, NM, William Landreth and wife, Melanie of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Sherri Walker and husband, David of Carlsbad, NM; sister, Phyllis Readel of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Nickolas Walker and Fisher Walker.
