Harry R. Young, 84, of East 23rd Street, Roswell, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his home.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, January 30, 2014, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Terry McKean officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Harry R. Young was born October 26, 1929 in Hardin, Texas to Emmett Lawton Young, and Margaret Bessie (Youngblood) Young. He grew up in Alleene, Arkansas; served in the Korean Conflict with the US Army. He later moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico and played minor league baseball for Carlsbad, and Artesia teams. In 1961, he married his first wife, Peggy Smart and together they had one son Gaylan Young. On November 15, 1969 he married his second wife, Juanita Young in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He retired from AMAX Potash Corporation. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to watch his grandson play baseball and his granddaughter ride horses. He never missed a Thursday coming to Carlsbad to play Texas Hold'em with his poker pals. He was a lifetime member of the Elks. He was also an avid bowler. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita Young; brother, Emmett "Dutch" Young.
Survivors are son, Gaylan Young and wife, Tammy of Roswell, NM; step-daughter, Sherry Ann Stevenson of Jacksonville, AR; granddaughters: Brittany Purkey and husband, Jon, Jordan Young and grandson, Gaylan E. Young.
