Harriet Virginia Allen

Harriet V. Allen, 95, of Vineyard Court, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away January 30, 2010 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, NJ. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Harriet was born November 6, 1914 in Jersey City, NJ to Henry and Lena Evans. She grew up in West New York, NJ. Harriet married Calvin John Allen September 4, 1937 in Guttenberg, NJ. In the early years she worked in an embroidery shop. Later Harriet and Calvin owned and operated a neighborhood tavern called Allen's Alley and they retired in 1975. She moved to Carlsbad in 2001 to be close to her daughter Judi. Harriet enjoyed crossword puzzles, bird watching, puzzles, and watching TV. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin John Allen in 1976; sister, Eunice Evelyn Brady and brother, Elmer John Evans. Survivors include her daughter: Judi Michelson and husband, Stan of Carlsbad, NM; grandson: Kevin Coyle and wife, Ami of Brooklyn, NY; granddaughter: Melanie Nelson of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law: Mildred Evans of Vadosta, GA; sister: Marion Pearl Seidel of Hamlet, NC; nieces Joy Carol Seidel of Hamlet, NC and Linda Sue Douglas and husband, Danny of Crystal River, FL; nephew: Harry Evans of Valdosta, GA.
