Obituary
Harlan Fugate left this life to meet his Lord and Savior on Friday afternoon August 10 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Harlan was born December 22, 1922 in Portsmouth Breathitt County, Kentucky to Will Press Fugate and Dulcena (Clemons) Fugate. He was raised to work hard, teach by example, and lived his life with an unbreakable spirit right to the moment of his death. Harlan was loved and admired by his family as well as many that thought of him as family and called him Papaw.
Harlan was a decorated Veteran who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Faye Dunaway in Salyersville, KY on January 24, 1948. Leaving the coal mines for the potash mines, they moved to Carlsbad in 1950 where their children Gardner, Kenneth and Deborah were born. Harlan retired from PCA in 1982 after 32 years.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Paul Edward; brothers: Ben, Henry, John and Billy Ray Fugate; sisters: Ellen Reddick, Stella King, Cora Sarvey and Pauline Lee.
He is survived by Faye, his wife and sweetheart of 70 years; sons: Gardner (Lynn), Kenneth (Betty) and daughter, Deborah Kilgore (Allen), sister, Dove Glasgow Ballard, all of Carlsbad, NM; brothers: Charles, Robert, Gene and Arthur, sister, Phylis Johnson of Jackson, KY; grandsons: Gardner James, Gentry, Joel, Gareth Greenwald and Roman Kilgore; granddaughters: Jamie Molinar, Katy Jo Fugate, Nikki Allen, Angelique Kilgore and Jill Fierro; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Ryan, Kylan, Presley, Harley, Justin, Asa, Graham, Gracelyn, Jordan, Lauren, Kairi, Henry, Alexa, Logan, Nathan, Victoria, Gabriel, Aaron, Tiffany, Phillip, Roman, Kasey, Cody and Jagger; great-great-grandchildren: Christian, Hayla and Elora and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Gardner James Fugate, Gentry Fugate, Joel Fugate, Roman Kilgore, Phillip Harrison, Phillip Brown, Danny Fierro and Dean Chester.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM 7:00 PM, Monday, August 13, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at Cavern Baptist Church at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 14. He will be laid to rest at the Carlsbad Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cavern Baptist Church, P.O.
