Obituary
Glen D. Porter, 84, of Colonial Ct., Carlsbad, NM, passed away from complications with pulmonary fibrosis Monday, June 3, 2019 at his home. He was cremated and services will be held at a later date.
Glen was born August 26, 1934 in Carlsbad, NM to Walter Dale and Velma Lee (Staggs) Porter. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Lou Wixom on February 8, 1953 with whom he spent 61 priceless years building a loving family and traveling the majestic landscapes of our country coast to coast. Glen worked in the local potash mines for 29 years and was a champion of union rights. He later bought and had much success running his own pest control company. He was a member of First Baptist Church since 1960, where he served his community as Deacon for many years. Glen was an avid outdoorsman, golfer, and nature lover. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and exploring the Guadalupe Mountains and cutting firewood there within. He loved exchanging ideas and always had a helping hand for those who needed it. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Lou Porter; brother, Alfred Porter and sister, Nelma Autry.
Survivors are his son, Robert G. Porter and wife, Annette; daughters, Jean Blenden and husband, Dick and Leslie Porter Fatheree; grandchildren: Alicia Porter, Sam Porter, Rachel Porter, Tai Pettigrew and husband, Taylor; Ben Etcheverry and wife, Jessica and Zachary Fatheree; great-granddaughter, Lilli Pettigrew; sister, Alvah Harris and husband, David of Georgetown, Texas; brother-in-law, John R. Wixom and wife, Kelly; friend, Retha Calhoun of Carlsbad, NM and many nieces and nephews whose support and care he cherished greatly.
