Gerald "J.D." Denton, 63, of N. Halagueno St., passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 at his home. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Associate Pastor Garry Schwalk officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Gerald "J.D" Denton was born March 24, 1953 in Dallas, Texas to Perry and Elizabeth (Senter) Denton. He graduated from CHS in 1972 and received an associate's degree from NMSU-Carlsbad. Gerald worked in the family business at Denton Funeral Home many years. After his parents sold the funeral home, he traveled many miles in numerous states helping build and repair churches. He was very proud to be an honorary member of the Queen Volunteer Fire Department. Gerald enjoyed planning and attending his high school reunions and loved Cavemen Football where he had the same reserved seat over 50 years. Gerald was a long time member of First Baptist Church and he was especially dedicated to his Sunday School class.
Gerald is survived by his parents Perry and Betty Denton of Carlsbad, NM; brothers: Lyndon Denton and wife, Kim of Tucson, AZ, Norman Denton and wife, Sherrie of Carlsbad, NM; nieces: Lindsay Castillo, Tiffany Garcia and husband, Jose; nephew: Dustin Denton and wife, Ashley as well as several great nieces and nephews.
