Georgia L. Hensley

Georgia L. Hensley, 77, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Georgia was born on January 7, 1946, in Socorro, NM to Lawton and Leona Muncy.

Cremation has taken place, and a joint memorial service with her husband has been scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2023, at Landmark Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis McKinley officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Georgia met the love of her life, Troy Hensley in high school, and they got married on June 3, 1965. They then started their family, and moved around New Mexico and Colorado until they settled in Carlsbad in 1986. Georgia was a loving mother, raising her children and some of her nieces and nephews over the years.  She started her own upholstery business, putting to use her skillful abilities. She also had a long career in working for newspapers some of which was at the El Paso Times as the district sales manager, and then at the Carlsbad Current Argus as the circulation manager until she retired in 2013. Georgia was a hard worker, and she had both physical and mental fortitude, which allowed to work on countless projects around the house. Georgia enjoyed working in the yard and tending to her flowers, but most of all she loved her family. Hosting family get to gathers and events for the holidays brought her such joy having everyone together. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, never being forgotten. 

Georgia was preceded in death by her father, Lawton Muncy; mother, Leona (Land) Muncy; husband, Troy D. Hensley; and five siblings: John K. Muncy, Mary Greenwood, Clinton Muncy, Virginia Adams, and Lori Rogers.

Georgia is survived by her four children: Shanna Gooch and husband, Stanley of Carlsbad, NM; Roxane Banks and husband, Wayne of Lovington, NM; Terry Lesmeister and husband, Frank of Parade, SD; and Darrel Dossey of Lovington, NM; twelve grandchildren: Stanley Gooch, III (Lyndsey), Shae Flanigan (Ernie), Skie Davis (Levi), Dalton Gooch (Destanie), Tyson Dossey (Amanda), Terry Don Dossey, Jonathon Dossey, Timothy Prewitt, Adam Lesmeister, Dyllan Lesmeister, Julia Lesmeister, and Luke Lesmeister; fourteen great grandchildren: McKenzie, Drake, Emilee, Delaney, Kaiden, Drew, Rilynn, Kaleb, Madison, Carter, Maddy, Scarlette, Abeni, and Brian; three siblings: Deana Greenwood of Luis Lopez, NM; Judy Whited of Tatum, NM; and Blaine Muncy of Corona, NM; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
