Our beloved Mother, Granny and Great Granny, Georgia Matt Farris, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 in San Antonio, TX. Georgia was born on November 4, 1919 in Lincoln, AR. She married Glen Farris on December 20, 1941 and was preceded in death by Glen in 2000. Georgia is survived by her only son, James (Dub) Farris and his wife, Janice of San Antonio, TX; grandson, Blake Farris and his wife, Melissa of San Antonio, TX; granddaughter, Allison Fox and her husband, Sean of Falls Church, VA; five great-grandchildren: Madison and Cooper Farris, Andrew and Patrick Allis and Lauren Fox. Her only surviving sibling is Lois Bassham of Mountainburg, AR. Georgia was a resident of Carlsbad for 60 years. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church where she served multi-terms on the Deacons and Sessions Boards. Georgia was a member of Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of Carlsbad Teachers Association, National Teachers Association, and Carlsbad Area Art Association. Georgia served as President of the Carlsbad Ladies Golf Association for 12 years and started the South Eastern Ladies Golf Association. One of Georgia's greatest achievement and loves was teaching school. She taught for 12 years in Arkansas and 28 years at Sunset School in Carlsbad. She loved all her students and kept up with a majority of them throughout the years. Carlsbad was the greatest place to live according to Georgia. She cherished her friendships and took pride in being a devout member of the community. Visitation will be 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday, December 15, 2014 at Denton Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Steven J. Voris and Rev. Gene H. Harbaugh officiating. Private family burial will be in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the charity of donors' choice. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
