George Edward McGonagill, 88, of Standpipe Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at his home.
Cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Fox and Lake Church of Christ with Elder Gary DeSoto officiating.
George Edward McGonagill was born May 11, 1927 in Carlsbad, NM to George and Laura (Procter) McGonagill. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1945. George served his country in the US Marine Corps during WWII. After his military service, he returned to Carlsbad where he went to work at the Post Office for a short time. Later George started working in the potash mines where he retired after 40 years. He married Madeline Roberson October 14, 1972 here in Carlsbad. George enjoyed hunting and carpentry. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Chris Bowman; brother, Alec McGonagill and sister, Yvonne Thrift.
Survivors are his wife, Madeline McGonagill of Carlsbad, NM; children: Judy Bowman and husband, Mike of Hurst, Texas, Charla Grice and husband, John of Carlsbad, NM, Shane McGonagill of Carlsbad, NM, Brenda Jolly and husband, Barry of Carlsbad, NM, Sterling McGonagill of Carlsbad, NM, Sue Coffman and husband, Larry of Amarillo, Texas, Curtis Roberson and wife, Sherry of Loving, NM; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Mead and numerous nieces and nephews.
