Geneva, age 91, was born on Feb. 7, 1923, in El Reno, OK to Davis and Martha (Scott) Flowers. She lived her early childhood in El Reno and later moved to Waurika, OK with her family where she graduated high school. After attending business school in Oklahoma City, she was employed as a stenographer and a bookkeeper. She met and married Dempsey Ransbarger, a GE parts salesman. Shortly after opening their own GE Parts Franchise, Dempsey died of lung cancer. Later, Geneva married Ralph Horton who suffered a massive stroke six weeks after their marriage; he lived 12 years in a nursing home. These were difficult and trying times for Geneva.
Several years later, a close friend introduced Geneva to Charles Huff at church. The couple immediately clicked and married six weeks later. After living in Oklahoma City for a short time, Charles, a New Mexico native, encouraged Geneva to move and enjoy the New Mexico charm in Santa Fe, NM where they built a house.
As a result of their love for the New Mexico mountains, Charles and Geneva soon found the perfect setting to build their dream home in Mora, NM where they could daily overlook a beautiful valley with a view of snow-capped mountains. Charles and Geneva worked hard to build their home and live in this remote area.
Geneva was good at everything she did whether it was cooking, handwork, or gardening. She inherited a green thumb as evidenced by her beautiful gardens. She and Charles decided to sell their beautiful flowers, vegetables, and homemade jams on Saturdays during the summers at the Santa Fe Farmers Market. This meant planning, packing, and waking up before sunrise to make the drive to Santa Fe. They considered this a joyful work and an adventure. They made many good friends who were regular customers.
Geneva and Charles moved to River Bend, Carlsbad, NM in 2002 where they lived the final years of their lives.
Geneva, a life-long member of the Church of Christ, as was Charles, was very strong in her faith. Being a people person, she had a loving heart and was eager to help others in any way she could.
Geneva is survived by a sister, Chloe Hampton, Shepherd, MI, a nephew, Kent Barnett (Denise) of Abilene, TX, nieces: Krys Poeske (David) of Boerne, TX, Lisa Langbo (Rod) of Traverse City, MI, Catherine Hampton of Midland, MI; three great nieces, three great nephews and a great-great nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Dempsey Ransbarger, Ralph Horton, and Charles Huff; and sister, Joyce Barnett.
