Obituary
Gary W. Johnson, 74, of Russell Street Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 in Las Cruces, New Mexico with his family by his side. Gary was born on August 29, 1946, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Lillard Bill and Shirley Johnson.
There will be no visitation, and the family will have private services at Carlsbad Cemetery Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Gary grew up in Carlsbad and graduated from Carlsbad High School. He then married the love of his life, Suzette Huber on November 8, 1968. Gary was always a hard worker, and started off his long career at Dawson Geophysical in Texas, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Then after moving back to Carlsbad in 1969, he worked at Kerr McGee, PCA and Mississippi Potash mines, he also worked as a bondsman for Zeke Hernandez. Gary then became the owner and operator of Accredited Detective Agency Merchant Patrol and Security Service in Carlsbad. Finally, he was a lease operator for Grace Oil Company and then EOG Resources, where he finally retired. Gary enjoyed car racing, including building and racing cars, especially circle dirt track racing where his whole family participated. He was a lover of the outdoors, and took every opportunity to go hunting, fishing and camping. At times during his life, he raised Tennessee Walking horses. Gary was a lover of animals and fed every stray cat in the neighborhood. He could never turn away a hungry person or animal. Gary will be dearly missed and never forgotten
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Lillard Bill Johnson; mother, Shirley Leck Collins Jackson; daughter, Kathy Morgan; son, Gary Wayne Johnson, Jr.; and grandmother, Clara Robbie Johnson.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Suzette Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; son, Billy Johnson and wife, Jennifer of Las Cruces, NM; three grandchildren: Matthew Morgan, Kyle Johnson, and Aaron Johnson all of Las Cruces, NM; brother-in-law, Joe Huber and wife, Faye of Carlsbad, NM; brother-in-law, Jim Huber of Payson, AZ; two nephews: Les Huber and Christopher Huber, both of Carlsbad; and one niece, Jamie Joe Huber of Payson AZ.
