A Memorial service for Gary Robertson, 80, of Carlsbad, NM will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Sunset Church of Christ with Brian McGonagill and Charles Robertson officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. He passed away at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Gary was born January 31, 1934 in Newcastle, Texas, the oldest of three children belonging to Jennings and Odessa (King) Robertson. He was a 1952 graduate of Roswell, New Mexico High School and later attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Gary also served in the U.S. Air Force in Japan for three years after which he returned to the states and entered the occupation of land surveying. His enjoyable career spanned over 50 years for which he received numerous awards including, New Mexico Sate Land Surveyor in 2006. He married Ina Rea Bittner in Haskell, Texas on June 21, 1969. They raised their family in both Albuquerque and Carlsbad, New Mexico. Gary and his family enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, red worm farming, honey-bee keeping, candy making and traveling. He was also very active in church, mission and community activities. Gary will be remembered for his sharp wit and great sense of humor, his generosity and helpfulness to others as well as his leadership skills and friendly disposition. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Robert Lovegrove. Survivors include his wife, Ina Rea of Carlsbad, NM; son, Charles and wife Sara of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter Lisa of Carlsbad, NM; two sisters: Marty Lovegrove of Great Falls, Montana and Sally Romotsky and husband, Jerry of Whittier, California; mother-in-law, Bettie Bittner of Haskell, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are J. C. Cunningham, Jim Hughes, Michael Joiner, John Meadows, Steve Peterson, Dan Reddy and Charles "Butch White.
