Obituary
Gail Ann Smith, 79, former resident of Carlsbad, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Houston, TX. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Phillips officiating. Gail Ann Smith was born May 3, 1939 in Hutchison, KS to W.O. and Carrie May (Morgan) Cooper. She worked for the Eddy County Assessors Office for 16 years. Gail attended school in Dell City, TX and NMSU-C in Carlsbad, NM. She enjoyed all crafts and baking sugar cookies at Christmas for her family and friends. Gail crocheted hundreds of afghans over her lifetime that she gave away to family and friends. She was a very generous person helping so many people throughout her life. Gail enjoyed her peeps while watching the Dr. Phil show. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Byron David Smith; grandson, Chad Eric Oligschlaeger; sisters: Cora Louise McIlroy and Catherine Brown and brother, Robert Cooper. Survivors are her daughter, Julie Ann Oligschlaeger; grandson, Christopher Oligschlaeger, great-grandson Oswald Michael Oligschlaeger, and numerous nieces and nephews.
