G. M. "Bud" Barnes, 70, of Hidalgo Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 at his home.
Visitation will be 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 28, 2013, 11:00 AM, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Tarvin officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
G. M. "Bud" Barnes was born January 18, 1943 butt naked in Lufkin, Texas to Louie and Jewel (Stanley) Barnes. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1961. Bud served his country in the US Army and was honorably discharged. He worked all over the country in construction. He worked for the City of Artesia as a building inspector and later went to work for the City of Carlsbad, where he eventually retired as Public Works Director. He retired May 31, 2013. Bud enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family. He was often times found puttering around in his yard. Bud's greatest love was his family and his darling, Joy Jackson. Bud wanted everyone to know he will miss everyone greatly and he will be watching all of us. He loves everyone very much. Nite! Nite! Bud was preceded in death by his parents; son, Damon Lee Barnes; grandson Lecil Drake; brother, Mike Barnes and sister, Alsie "Janice" Shefka.
Survivors are his darling, Joy Jackson of Carlsbad, NM; three daughters: Suzanne Robart and husband, Dink of Alpine, AZ, Lisa Hull of Montana, Nancy "Shelly" Barnes-King and husband, Justin of Idaho; son, Louie John Barnes and Camille Koetting of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Michael Barnes, Taneisha Cleveland, Cody Smith; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers: Dean Barnes and wife, Sharon of Carlsbad, Gene Barnes of Loving, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Michael Barnes, Waylon Barnes, Cody Smith, Richard Baker, Eric Jameson and Joey Fuson. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Barnes, Dean Barnes, Larry Lunsford, Wes Nichols, Bill Heineken, Richard Baker, Jr., Craig Lunsford, Brian Stevens, Jon Franklin and Nathan McGee.
