Obituary
Frank M. Vasquez passed away peacefully at his home in Loving, after a brief illness, on January 19, 2020, in the company of his loving wife, Martha. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Friday, January 24, 2020, followed by a prayer vigil at 7 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Liturgy of the Word Service, officiated by Deacon Tony Dominguez, will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 25, 2020, at San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
Frank was born November 6, 1936 in Ysleta, Texas to Benjamin and Elena Vasquez. In 1950, as a young teenager, he and his family moved to what would later be referred to as Vasquezville, New Mexico.
Frank attended school in Ysleta, Texas, Malaga and Carlsbad, New Mexico. He graduated from Carlsbad High in 1956. He worked on the family ranch and Ogden farms during his younger years. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and went to basic training in Fort Hamilton, New York in 1962 and was later stationed in Munich, Germany where he completed a two-year tour. While he was stationed in Europe, he was able to tour Germany, France, Switzerland and Austria. Upon his return, he attended trade school in Taos, NM and earned an Electrician/Mechanic Certification.
Frank was employed as a mechanic at United Auto in Carlsbad for many years and later at Pennzoil Sulfur in Orla, Texas. He had an amazing skill. Frank retired from Pennzoil Sulfur in 1992. He enjoyed his long retirement and continued his craft for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, but especially his grandkids.
In 1958, Frank met his future wife, Martha, and they were married on September 21, 1961. Frank was preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin and Elena Vasquez and his brother, Max Vasquez.
Frank is survived by Martha, his wife of 58 years; daughter, Emma Thompson and husband, Paul of Carlsbad; sons: Tommy and wife, Hilda of Carlsbad, Sammy and wife, Kay of Naples, Italy and Ralph and wife, Monica of Loving; grandchildren: Karli and Kristen Thompson, Alec, Avery, Jessica, Joshua and Joseph Vasquez, Joshua Mares and Sidney and Shania Vasquez; brothers: Guadalupe, Ben, Epi, Tony, Miguel, Carmen, Juan and Pete Vasquez; sister, Nena Vasquez and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Tommy, Sammy and Ralph Vasquez, Paul Thompson, grandsons: Joshua, Joseph and Avery Vasquez and Joshua Mares. Honorary pallbearer is Alec Vasquez. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
