Frank Gale Roberts was born January 14, 1942 in Raymondville, Texas to Frances Isabel (Eaton) and Frank Ora Roberts. His parents were married in Raymondville in 1935. They owned Roberts Caf in Raymondville for many years before his father bought a Charter Boat business in Port Isabel, Texas in the mid 1950's. Frank worked as a deck hand on weekends and during summers on his father's boat. As a teenager, he worked driving a cotton picker and combine for a school chum's family farm. He was trying to buy his first car by working the fields.
Frank attended school through 12th grade in Raymondville. While in High School he played the trombone in the school band. He attended A & I in Kingsville, Texas for 1 1/2 years.
He married Pamela Wood in Raymondville in June of 1963. They celebrated the birth of their first daughter, Misty, in 1964. He worked for King Hardware, Missouri Pacific Railroad, and Manning Electric. The family moved to Angleton, Texas where he worked for Dow Chemical for 8 years. They celebrated the birth of their second daughter, Tammy, in 1968.
In 1975 the family moved to Carlsbad and he worked at Becker Industries. When Becker closed in 1978 they moved to Enid, Oklahoma where he worked for Farmland Industries. The family moved back to Carlsbad in 1980. He worked at N-Ren till closure. He then worked in the Metallurgic Labs at AMAX, Mississippi, and lastly Intrepid until his retirement in 2005.
He loved traveling abroad and going on cruises. After retirement he and Pam traveled over the USA with a 5th wheel and their special co-pilot and four-legged friend, Caesar, for 2 years until Frank fell ill. His next love was hunting with his hunting buddy and wife. He loved to hike and scout out new country.
Frank passed away March 29, 2010 after his battle with leukemia, at home surrounded by his family and his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and Caesar.
He is survived by his wife, Pam of the home; daughters: Misty Light (and Michael Sostrich) of Carlsbad, Tammy and husband, Stacy Bowman of Carlsbad; his grandchildren: Chassidy Jennings (and Chris Maxwell) of Houston, Texas, Sidney Light and her father, Bradley Light of Carlsbad, Patrick, Staciana, and Ayden Bowman of Carlsbad. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Irene Bulkeley (who has been a second mother to Frank) and step-father-in-law, Ray Bulkeley of Carlsbad.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Tuesday, April 6, 2010, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 2107 Calle de Codorniz in Carlsbad.
