Florence Chambers Thompson, 91, of Crane, Texas, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 in Gardendale, Texas.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Friday, May 18, 2012 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 18, 2012, 3:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dennis W. McKinley officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Florence Chambers Thompson was born on August 15, 1920 in Roosevelt, Oklahoma to Clay B. and Navada Elijah (Mitchell) Chambers. She grew up in Oklahoma where she attended school and helped on the family farm. Florence married Virgil Thompson on August 15, 1941 in Mt. Park, Oklahoma. They moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1949, to Artesia in 1953 and later to Carlsbad in 1959. Florence was dedicated to raising her children and later loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the Freewill Baptist Church where she was in the women's auxiliary. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Virgil Thompson; sons: Jerry Thompson and Alvin Thompson; daughters: Irene Baker and Carolyn Sebastian; brothers: Clarence, Leroy, Donny and Wayne Chambers; and sister, Marie Chambers.
Survivors are her children: Dorothy Pinson of Cross Lanes, WV, James Thompson of Crane, Texas, Wanda King of Carlsbad, NM; 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother: Chuck Chambers of Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Justice, Rusty Copley, Jerry Dale Thompson, Robby Foster, Jonathan King and Eric Copley. Honorary pallbearer will be Alfredo Castillo.
