Evelyn L. Kerby, 83, of Carlsbad, NM passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Cremation has taken place. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Floyd Cemetery in Floyd, NM. A meal will be served at the Senior Citizen's Club House in Floyd after the service. Evelyn Lucille (Best) Kerby was born in O'Donnell, Texas on December 12, 1930 to John Grady (Red) Best and Eula Faye (Reavis) Best. She graduated from High School at Floyd, NM and then married the love of her life, Ed Kerby, July 10, 1948, they were married 65 years prior to Ed's death in 2013. Evelyn was a very talented woman, she put her heart into everything she did from helping Ed with their custom farming business and their cattle hauling business to arts and crafts. She painted everything from beautiful landscapes, ceramics, and gourds to rocks and saw blades. She was a great cook and loved preparing wonderful meals and delicious desserts for her family and friends. Family meant everything to Evelyn, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and sister. We will all miss her very much but know that she is in a better place and with her loving husband, Ed! She was preceded in death by husband Ed Kerby, infant daughter Edwina, her parents, and sister Thelma Parker. Survivors are Evelyn's three children: Carole Bryant and husband, Gene of Carlsbad, NM, Kevin Kerby and wife Vicki of Lubbock Texas and Kim Elias and husband Charlie of Boerne, Texas. Grandchildren: Darren Bryant and wife Christina, Gina Bryant, Cody Kerby and wife Rebekah, Cameron Kerby and wife, Abbe, Blake Kerby and wife Haley, Ashley Elias and Michael Elias. Great-Grandchildren: Megan Bryant, Chase Bryant, Austin Cox, Rylie Cox, Kinslee Kerby and Brantley Kerby, brother Wendell Best and wife Joy, sister Billie Cooper and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
