Evarista H. "Tita" Elizondo, 89, of E. Orchard Lane, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 in Trinidad, Colorado. Visitation will be 5:00 PM 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A prayer service is scheduled for Thursday, March 10, 2016, at 7:00 PM at Denton- Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, March 11, 2016, 10:00 AM, at Carlsbad First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Brad Coates officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Evarista H. "Tita" Elizondo was born August 20, 1926 in Carlsbad, NM to Porfiro and Sara (Santana) Hernandez. She started elementary school before moving to Ft. Davis at age 8. Evarista returned to Carlsbad in 1939, moving to the La Huerta area working in the cotton fields. In 1942, she met Roque Elizondo and they married in 1945. She started a family and raised 6 children. She worked for the Carlsbad Schools in the cafeteria department and, after raising her children, Evarista worked as a nurse's aide at Lakeview Christian Home, retiring in 1982 to care for her mother and father. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and helping at her church. Evarista was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roque brothers: Enrique and Porfiro, Jr. sisters: Sarita, Dora, Elodia and one great granddaughter. Survivors are her sons: Antonio Elizondo and wife, Norma, Alberto Elizondo and wife, Alma, George Elizondo and wife, Donna, Thomas Elizondo and wife, Josephine, Daniel Elizondo and daughter, Angela Bussey and husband, Brett. She is also survived by one brother, Felipe Hernandez and wife, Belen and one sister, Elvira Talavera, both from Gilroy, California 16 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
