Evan Dell Chaney, 90, passed away Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 2:00 PM A?" 4:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home, 1001 N. Canal, Carlsbad, NM. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 29th at 10:00 AM with Pastor Gerald Harden officiating at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Evan Dell was born to Alta and John Taggart on December 9th, 1919 in Snyder, Texas. She attended school in Snyder and married Stacy Chaney in 1939. They had 6 children, James, Sherry, Marie, Sue, Becky and Connie. Evan Dell and Stacy moved to Carlsbad in 1949 where she led an active and full life and she felt her greatest accomplishment was raising and loving her 6 children, grandchildren and all her foster children. Some of her hobbies included quilting, macrame, reading and garage sales. She loved to travel, going out to eat and spending time with her family. She was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for 61 years, where she was formerly a Sunday School, Girls Auxiliary and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stacy Chaney, her sister Margie Dye, brothers Bruce and Buck Taggart and grandchild Cassie Cordova. She is survived by her children, James Chaney & wife Peggy of Carrollton, TX, Sherry Chaney of Carlsbad, Marie Chaney of Neenah, WI, Sue Plumlee and husband Sam of Carlsbad, Becky Chaney of Grand Prairie, TX, Connie Calderon & husband Mike of Carlsbad. Her grandchildren are Stacie Czech & husband Dale, Brakken Barela, Brandon Chaney & wife Stephanie, Michael Chaney & wife Monica, Michael Cordova & wife Christina, Matthew Cordova, Joseph Brake & wife Rika. She was especially delighted when her great grandchildren started to arrive. Her great-grandchildren are Clayton Chaney, Hanna Chaney, Nathaniel Chaney, Gunner Brake, Frannie and Mason Czech and soon to be 7th great grandchild, Sean William Chaney. The pallbearers will be her grandsons.
