Eva Jo Rice

Eva Jo Rice, 89, of Alamosa Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at her daughter’s home.  Visitation will be 5 PM – 7 PM, Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.  A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at the Carlsbad Cemetery Gazebo with Pastor Phillip Price officiating.

Eva Jo was born September 20, 1932 in Paris, Arkansas to Alva Layfette and Ola (Turner) Brookover.  She moved to Carlsbad in 1953.  Eva Jo worked for Carlsbad Medical Center as a cashier over 25 years until retiring in 1997.  She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers, playing dominos and sitting on the porch drinking coffee with her friends.  Eva Jo was preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry Bowen and sister, Maron White.

Survivors are her sons: David Bowen and wife, Tina, Andy Rice and David Renteria; daughter, Lisa J. Rice; 7 grandchildren; sister, Margaret Austin and husband, Clifford; brothers: Gene Brookover and wife, Linda, Dean Brookover, numerous nieces and nephews and best friend, Marion Briggs.

Pallbearers will be Francisco Rice, Jose Rice, Heath Nesbit, Wrangler Yarbrough, Cole Henderson and Cecil Henderson.
