Eulalia A. Lala Gonzalez, 93, of Carlsbad, NM passed away June 7, 2018, peacefully at home with her family by her side.
Lala was born to Crispin and Rita (ne Madrid) Alvarez on February 12, 1925 in Shafter, Texas. Later having moved to Presidio, TX with her parents and seven siblings, she married Paz B. Gonzalez in 1944. Upon Pazs return from service in the U.S. Army during World War II, the couple moved to the Carlsbad area, settling in Loving for several years before moving to Carlsbad in 1967. While Paz worked in the local potash industry, Lala retired from the Carlsbad Municipal schools as a cook in the school cafeterias.
Along with Paz, Lala devoted her life to raising her three children and was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church. She exhibited a mental and physical toughness throughout her life, overcoming personal obstacles and health challenges. Meanwhile she remained the rock of the family, teaching valuable life lessons and guiding all with a sweet, loving gentleness. Lala was the epitome of selflessness and humility with a profound ability to forgive and love. Her faith and fondness of life were ever strong. She liked cooking and passing on recipes to her famous food, enjoyed making the occasional trip to a casino and adored joyous times with family and friends until the end.
