Eulalia "Lala" Ortega Fino, 85, of Algerita St., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at her home, after a second struggle with cancer. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Vigil is scheduled for Tuesday, January 22, 2013, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 2:00 PM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Eulalia was born on February 12, 1927, in Balmorehea, Texas, to Jose and Ladislada (Fuentes) Ortega. She lived a very full and active life and worked in various places. Eulalia enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and neighbors. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church and was currently an active member of the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. Eulalia was preceded in death by her husband, Ventura S. Fino; her parents; brothers: Pablo F. Ortega, Prahedez F. Ortega, Guadalupe F. Ortega and Enrique F. Ortega; sisters: Florentina O. Gonzales and Manuela O. Losoya; and 11 nephews and nieces: Pablo Ortega, Jr., Manuel Ortega, Juan Losoya, Saul Ortega, Edwardo Gonzales, Ramon Natividad, Teresa Gonzales, Marissa Martinez and Justin P. Navarro. Survivors are her sisters: Juana F. Ortega of Carlsbad, NM and Felipa O. Natividad of Pecos, Texas; nephew, Ernesto O. Losoya and niece, Lucinda Ortega Conner of Illinois, who Lala and her husband raised in the home; and 38 nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Roy Deanda, Adon Oretga, Omar Nuez, Denny Onsurez, Joe Jordan, Michael Deanda. Honorary pallbearers are Mario Nuez, Dennis Onsurez, Chauncy Ortega, Roy Losoya, Demetrius Onsurez, Gilberto Ortega, Jose Losoya. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
