Eugenia Smith, 93, of Standpipe Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Friday, April 3, 2015 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2015, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Billy Hedgecock and Bro. Dean McAlister officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Frances Eugenia Smith was born July 24, 1921 in Edith, Texas to James Frank and Vela Frances (King) Davis. She grew up and graduated in Texas. On May 27, 1939 she married George Raymond Smith in Robert Lee, Texas. They moved to Carlsbad in 1942. Eugenia was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She helped with the census for many years. Eugenia was a faithful member of 9th and Missouri Church of God, where she served as Treasurer for 25 years. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club and the Carlsbad Area Art Association. In 1974 she started oil painting. Eugenia also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing and woodwork. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Raymond Smith; sons: Raymond Eugene Smith, Frank Stephen Smith, Stanley Alan Smith; brothers: Sam Plumlee, Frank Davis; sisters: Trudy Davis Green, Bessie Brice, Helen Embry and Sarah Lavern Summers. Survivors are her son, Rasler Wallis Smith, Sr. and wife, Frannie of Las Cruces, NM; daughter, Angela Doreen Sparks of Carlsbad, NM; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Derwood "Bud" Davis of Corbet, Oregon and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Pallbearers will be Steve Sparks, Allan Barnes, Rasler Smith, Rob Smith, Ray Smith and Sam Plumlee, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are Rasler Smith, Jr., James Sparks, Steve Barnes, Garry Barnes and Randy Smith.
