Estefana Hernandez Lopez, 89, of Avitia Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
A vigil is scheduled for Sunday, December 10, 2017, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, December 11, 2017, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Pasala Hruday Kumar officiating. Interment will follow in Loving Cemetery, Loving, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Estefana Hernandez Lopez was born September 2, 1928 in Loving, NM to Vicente and Reyes (Brito) Hernandez. She suffered the loss of her mother at the age of twelve and went to live with her older sister, Vitar, where she helped care for her nephews and nieces until she married. Estefana married Marcelino B. Lopez December 31, 1946 in Loving, NM. They raised their family on the farm in Otis. Estefana was definitely resourceful and intelligent as she could do anything needed on the farm. She was a person of great faith and always giving and caring. She was a God fearing woman who often read the bible. She received visitors with great hospitality and enjoyed sitting down to a cup of coffee and sharing stories. Estefana loved cooking for family and friends, especially hot tortillas, frijoles and chili verde. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marcelino B. Lopez, Sr.; daughter, Delia Gonzalez; son-in-law, Louis Garcia; grandson, Adam Joel Lopez; siblings: Socorro, Maria, Manuela, Pedro, Victor, Fermin, Abel and Herman Hernandez, Pedro, Merced, Florencio, Genoveva and Vitar Franco.
Survivors are her daughters: Guadalupe Rodriguez, Belia Garcia and Gloria Fierro, all of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Marcelino Lopez, Jr. and wife, Angelita, Lorenzo Lopez and wife, Ofelia, Ricardo Lopez, Thomas Lopez, Sr. and Jose Lopez, all of Carlsbad, NM; son-in-law, Antonio Gonzalez of El Paso, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Christina Estrada of Carlsbad, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Martin Rodriguez, Antonio Gonzales, Jr., Nico Salcido, Jesus Fierro, Josh Lopez, Jeremiah Lopez and Ray Lopez.
A big ‘thank you’ and ‘God bless’ to all the medical personnel and people who were there for her duing her lifetime and a special thanks to Chris, Liliana, Eva, Denton-Wood Funeral Home, San Jose Catholic Church, Fr. Pasala, Rocky Jimenez and the Loving Community Center from the Lopez family.
