Enriquita “Henrietta” Chavez, 81, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Goodlife Assisted Living. Henrietta was born on December 17, 1942, in Artesia, NM to Isabiel and Lucy Chavarria.

A rosary is scheduled for 9:30 AM Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Artesia, NM; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM with Fr. Vijaya Raju officiating. Interment will take place at the Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Henrietta graduated from the Artesia High School, and then went on to marry the love of her life, Raymond Chavez, who she spent 61 beautiful years with. Over the years, she worked as a homemaker raising her son Ray as well as working at Spots Red, a laundry mat, House of Fabric, Ray’s Fabric, and Jill’s Fabric where she finally retired. She was also a team mom for every sport her son was in. Ray would be sure to volunteer her for this role without asking, but she was always happy to do it. She loved her family dearly, and she will be never forgotten.

Henrietta was preceded in death by her father, Isabiel Chavarria; mother, Lucy (Nino) Chavarria; and five siblings: Ismeal Chavarria, Jody Chavarria, Eva Ruiz, Jerry Chavarria, and Adam Chavarria.

Henrietta is survived by her husband, Raymond Chavez of Carlsbad, NM; son, Raymond “Ray” Chavez and wife, Megan of Carlsbad, NM; four grandchildren: Brittany Chavez (Jeremy), Brody Chavez, Braxton Chavez, and Brynlee Chavez; two great grandchildren, Zach Galindo and Emily Galindo; four siblings all of Artesia, NM: David Chavarria (Judy), Freddy Chavarria, Mary Chavarria, and Nick Chavarria; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Goodlife Senior Living Ceneter, Enhabit Hospice, and family members who assisted Henrietta during this time. Condolences may be expressed online at dentonwood.com
