Obituary Henry G. Munoz, 79, of Carlsbad, NM went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ November 1, 2018. He went peacefully surrounded by his family and friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Calvary Assembly of God with Pastor Phillip Price officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Henry was born to Adan A. Munoz and Gomicinda (Gutierrez) Munoz in Carlsbad, NM December 29, 1938. He attended schools here in Carlsbad Craft School, Alta Vista and Carlsbad Senior High School where he graduated in 1958. He attended law enforcement academy and many leadership conferences and training. Henry enlisted in the NM Army National Guard where he served for 42 years active and non-active service. He then married his sweetheart Marina Yturralde whom he first met on the playground at Craft school, later in life met again, began dating and were married sixty years. They had five children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Henry loved them all and enjoyed them and his four dogs dearly, until the very end. He was employed in various jobs throughout his lifetime: Boys club of America in Carlsbad as a director and co-director, Eddy County Sherriff Department, owner of a local bar, Eddy County Community Action Program, Neighborhood Urban Development Program, Grace House Home for Boys, co-pastored a church with the late David Muoz and also co-pastored Building for Christ. Henry was a member of LULAC, Christmas Anonymous and volunteered in many community and non-profit organizations in Carlsbad throughout the years and received Citizen of the Year Award from the City of Carlsbad. He was an accomplished boxer in his young age earning multiple state and national Golden Glove titles in his weight division in nearby cities and places like Chicago and New York. He was active in politics locally and nationally and was invited and attended the Inauguration of President Jimmy Carter. His greatest achievement was to be ordained minister by minister Ernest Francia in 1996. Little did he know that he had already been chosen and called to do the Lords work. No matter where he was, whether he was at the Boys Club, Fort Bliss Army Base, Kirkland Air Force Base, The Border of Mexico and the U.S. building churches, in the colonias, he was always mentoring young soldiers, wayward boys on the street, or in boys homes. Henry served his country, his state, his community, his family and he served the Lord God almighty all the way to the time he went to be with the Lord. We will all miss him. Henry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Paula Urquidez.
