Emma Garcia Martinez, 92, of Carlsbad, New Mexico went home to be with the lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Emma was born on June 18, 1929 to Manuel Dario Garcia and Simona Herrera Garcia in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Emma was raised in a small farm near Otis, New Mexico along with five of her siblings. In her early years she worked at the Carlsbad Steam Laundry. Emma met Porfirio “Pilo” Martinez in the summer of 1952; after his return from the service they married on May 5, 1955. Emma enjoyed gardening, watching her soap operas, traveling, dancing and enjoying her grandkids. Emma was a devout Christian always offering her family and friends spiritual guidance. Emma was a mother to many and a friend to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents: Manuel D. Garcia and Simona H. Garcia; granddaughter, Milagro Mia Franco; brothers: Manuel Garcia and Mundo Garcia; sisters: Pamfila Gonzalez and Lucia “Lucy” Griego.
Emma is survived by her husband Pilo Martinez, daughters Perla Martinez, Priscilla Martinez, and son Porfirio “Porf” Martinez, Jr. and his wife Grace; grandchildren Ricco Martinez and his wife Syerra, Alegria and fiancé Trey Weiskopf, Steve Montanez and his wife Christine, Scott Sing and his wife Larissa, Megan Martinez; great grandchildren baby Emma, Zakary, Eric, Sophia, little Soph, Boston, Saleen, Shelby, Henry and Lylah; great-great-grandson, Baby Zayir; brother Lupe Garcia and wife Margaret.
Pallbearers are Ricco Martinez, Scott Sing, David Contreras, James Shipp, Zakary Martinez and TC Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are Clinton “Doc” West, Benny Ortega, Eric Martinez and Joe Navarette.
The visitation and viewing will be at the Denton Wood Funeral Home at 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2022. Deacon Tony Dominguez will officiate a rosary service at 6:00 p.m. following the viewing at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be held at the St. Edwards Catholic church at 10:00 a.m., Monday March 7, 2022. Burial internment will follow the mass services at the Santa Catarina cemetery.
