Emma Jones, longtime Carlsbad resident, died Monday, October 12 at Landsun Homes.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Spier, a son, Jon W. Jones and wife, Lynda; grandsons, Kerry and Kevin Jones, five great-grandchildren; Kathryn, Carolyn, Lane, Nathan and Mary Jones along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne W. Jones, parents, Victor and Mary Lewis, brothers, John, Sam, Guy, Thomas and Troy Lewis, sisters, Pauline Lewis, Jane Williams, Mildred McDevitt, Lillian Lewis and Reba Morris.
Emma spent the majority of her life in New Mexico but enjoyed being called an "Okie" from Oklahoma. She met and married Wayne in Wetumka, Oklahoma in 1936. Wayne's roots were in New Mexico and New Mexico became home for Emma too.
She worked as a homemaker and also outside in numerous capacities. She was Director for the Dial-A-Teen program in Carlsbad from 1989-91.
Emma was involved in many community activities and especially enjoyed working with young people.
The family wishes to thank the staff of 1st Floor Manor at Landsun Homes for their compassionate care during Emma's final years.
As per her request, cremation has taken place under the direction of Denton-Wood Funeral Home. No services are planned. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
