Elvira Sarabia Ortiz, 90, of Diaz, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2014, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Elvira Sarabia Ortiz was born April 6, 1924 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Juan O. and Andrea (Munoz) Sarabia. She worked as a volunteer for Senior Affairs. Elvira always enjoyed helping others with errands and transporting to doctors appointments. She loved playing bingo, reading and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Crecencio "Pancho" Ortiz and three brothers. Survivors are son, Cres Ortiz and wife, Minnie of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Christina Estrada and husband, Eduardo of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Edward Estrada, Charles Estrada, Anthony Ortiz, George Ortiz, Melanie Ortiz, Melissa Perez, Kristy Sillas; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Pete Sarabia and wife, Minnie of Carlsbad, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Edward Estrada, Charles Estrada, George Ortiz, Anthony Ortiz, Carlos Bailleres and George Bailleres.
