Elvira Vigil Florez-Duran, 72, of W. Rose St., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 at the University of New Mexico Medical Center, Albuquerque, NM.
Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 11, 2012, 7:00 PM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Israel Sanchez officiating.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Elvira was born and raised in Carlsbad. She received an Associates Degree in Education from NMSU-C.
Elvira was a Jehovah Witness Pioneer. She attended the Alamogordo Orientation Center for the Blind for a year after going blind from a brain tumor. In May 2007, she and Guadalupe Duran were married in Carlsbad. Elvira loved to crochet and enjoyed life in general with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Steve Carrasco; and grandson, Michael Davis.
Survivors are her spouse, Guadalupe C. Duran of Carlsbad, NM.; six daughters: Barbara Ann Davis and husband, Gregory of Carlsbad, NM., Betty Ann Carrasco of Albuquerque, NM., Donna Ann Carrasco and partner, Brenda Stinson of Albuquerque, NM., Jessie Ann LeBoeuf and husband, Ronald of Carlsbad, NM., Jo Ann Riel and husband, Richard of Los Lunas, NM., Sarah Lee Ann Rike and husband, David of Indianapolis, IN.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Ramiro Florez and wife, Nora of Whitaker, CA., Ernesto Florez and wife, Cecilia of Carlsbad, NM., Ruben Salcido and wife, Anna Maria of San Antonio; TX., several nieces, nephews, extended family members and her church family.
