Elsie R Duran, 61, of West Wood Avenue, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A Vigil is scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 7:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2014, 10:00 AM, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski OFM, Conv. officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Catarina Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico . Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Elsie R. Duran was born March 31, 1952 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Guadalupe C. and Consuelo V. (Rubio) Duran. She loved fishing, spending time at the casino and her dog, Romeo. Elsie was loved by her nieces and nephews and always kept them laughing. She was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. She was preceded in death by her mother Consuelo Duran; brothers: Daniel, David, and Ruben Duran and sister Teresa Navarrette. Survivors are father, Guadalupe C. Duran of Carlsbad, NM; siblings: Nancy Lopez and husband, Frank of Carlsbad, NM, Yolanda Sing and Sidney Montejano of Carlsbad, NM, Olga Medina of Carlsbad, NM, Rudy Duran and Rentia Luna of Albuquerque, NM, Michael Duran and wife, Rosie of Van Horn, TX, Gerald Duran and wife, Linda of Tempe AZ, numerous nieces and nephews; companion of 23 years, Cecilia Buendia and her children: Makayla, Chelsie Buendia and Deiante Juarez. Pallbearers will be Anthony Lopez, Jacob Medina, Sonny J. Sing, Amy Cunningham, Tony Hernandez and Daniel Edward Duran. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
